Section 1 — You Are Interviewing Them

An ABA interview is not an audition. It is two parties deciding whether the arrangement will work. Companies are short-staffed; you have leverage you were never told about.

Most RBT turnover is not about the kids. It is about caseload chaos, unpaid drive time, canceled sessions, and supervision that never happens. Every one of those is knowable before you sign — if you ask.

The goal of the first ten minutes is not to impress. It is to find out how this company behaves when things go wrong: a client cancels, a behavior plan is not working, a parent complains, you need a day off. Ask about the bad day, not the good one.

Write the answers down while you are still in the room. Impressions blur by the time you get to the parking lot, and you will want to compare companies side by side later.

Quick checklist

  • "What happens to my pay when a client cancels?"
  • "How many supervision hours do I get, and who provides them?"
  • "What is the average caseload per RBT right now?"
  • "Is drive time between clients paid?"
  • "What does your onboarding look like in week one?"
